CoR-Lab at "Forum Maschinenbau 2009"
4. - 6. November 2009 CoR-Lab will be at the action area of the innovation network OWL in mechanical engineering in Hall 23.1 at the Forum Maschinenbau (FMB) in Bad Salzuflen.
On the opening day at FMB there will be the first SME Automation and Robotics Congress with the closing discussion at 5:30 p.m. about challenges, solutions and trends including Prof. Dr. Jochen J. Steil (Managing Director CoR-Lab).
Opening of the teutolab-robotik
On June 3rd, 2009, teutolab-robotik was opened: After the official ceremony with Prof. Dr. Dieter Timmermann (president of Bielefeld University), Prof. Dr. Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus (initiator and director of teutolab-chemie) and Prof. Dr. Jochen Steil (managing director of CoR-Lab), the guests had the possibility to get a glimpse of »Die Roboterakademie«. Pupils of grades 7 to 9 attended this workshop to explore the fascinating world of learning robots and gain hands-on experience in programming and teaching robots. After this successful start from now on 12 to 15 year-old kids are cordially invited to visit »Die Roboterakademie« at teutolab-robotik!

ICDL2009 Best Paper Award for CoR-Lab PhD Student
The International Conference on Development and Learning (ICDL2009) is a leading forum for current research on the development and learning process of natural and artificial systems including developmental robotics, which is a major topic in CoR-Lab's research activities. Hence, researchers of CoR-Lab presented their ongoing work in four presentations and among these, Lars Schillingmann received the best paper award of ICDL09 for his work on a "Computational Model of Acoustic Packaging". Congratulations, Lars!
HANNOVER MESSE 2009 - the world's leading technology event
With CoR-Lab and CITEC, both are high-profile research institutions dedicated to make cognitive interaction between humans ans machines a reality, 'intelligent systems at Bielefeld University' were presented at the stand of the innovation network OWL Maschinenbau e. V. in Hannover. Many visitors came to the stand and asked for the activities of that important research field.

During a visit at HANNOVER MESSE the Minister for Economics Affairs and Energy of the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia Mrs. Christa Thoben inquired about the current conditions. One aspect for her visit was the campaign 'WE LOVE THE NEW KNOWLEDGE', where CoR-Lab is represented with two doctoral candidates at Bielefeld University and two ASIMOs.
Flying visit at CoR-Lab - Honda gets a picture of the latest research results with ASIMO
On Wednesday, 21 January 2009, Yasuhisa Arai, Chief Operating Officer of Honda’s Fundamental Technology Research Centre and President of Honda Research Institute Japan has been visiting CoR-Lab at Bielefeld University. The intention of this visit was to inform himself about CoR-Lab's development and the progress of the research projects involving Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO.
Latest achievements resulting from advancements in the areas of full body motion learning, human-machine interaction and data-analysis were presented. ASIMO is now able, basing upon a few learned examples, to execute previously unknown hand- and arm-movements like painting a figure as demonstrated interactively by humans.
A short TV report of the visit including the demonstration of ASIMO's new capabilities can be found on the WDR homepage. Additional media coverage by the "Neue Westfälische" is available online here. For older TV-coverage see our Media page.
Prof. Schack gives invited talk at ISSP2009
Prof. Thomas Schack is an invited speaker at the 12th World Congress of Sport Psychology sponsored by the International Society of Sport Psychology. He will give a presentation on the "Cognitive architecture of motor action - building blocks of motion intelligence in memory and brain".
