Flying visit at CoR-Lab - Honda gets a picture of the latest research results with ASIMO

On Wednesday, 21 January 2009, Yasuhisa Arai, Chief Operating Officer of Honda’s Fundamental Technology Research Centre and President of Honda Research Institute Japan has been visiting CoR-Lab at Bielefeld University. The intention of this visit was to inform himself about CoR-Lab's development and the progress of the research projects involving Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO.

Latest achievements resulting from advancements in the areas of full body motion learning, human-machine interaction and data-analysis were presented. ASIMO is now able, basing upon a few learned examples, to execute previously unknown hand- and arm-movements like painting a figure as demonstrated interactively by humans.

A short TV report of the visit including the demonstration of ASIMO's new capabilities can be found on the WDR homepage. Additional media coverage by the "Neue Westfälische" is available online here. For older TV-coverage see our Media page.
