Benjamin Inden obtained a Diplom in computer science from FernUniversität Hagen and a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in computer science from Universität Leipzig. He joined CoR-Lab in April 2008.

His field of research is using evolutionary algorithms to find artificial neural networks that can control robots and agents in simulated environments. He is interested in indirect encodings of neural network topology and weights, particularly those taking inspiration from processes of embryonic development.
