Learning how to point

 

Abstract:

Pointing gestures are important in communication, for instance to "point out" the object of discussion. To successfully point with one's hand at objects in the environment, a precise visuo-motor coordination is crucial. We present a system for teaching the humanoid robot iCub how to point in physical human-robot interaction. Different approaches to model and solve the problem of visuo-motor coordination for pointing are discussed and compared.
